So This Is What It’s Like When Doves Cry: RIP Prince

In what has been a crazy year for celebrity deaths already, yet another music icon has passed away. Like David Bowie, Prince was someone I appreciated and really respected as an artist/musician but I would be lying if I said I was a huge fan. To be honest, I know Prince mostly for his great songs (When Doves Cry, Let’s Go Crazy and 1999 are legit anthems for me). Other than that my knowledge or Prince is mostly based on watching Purple Rain: The 1989 Batman Soundtrack: Charlie Murphy’s story about him: Neal Brennan’s story about him: Kevin Smith’s story about him: Oh and the fun fact that “Nothing Compares to You” is actually Prince’s best selling single: All of this aside, I really did believe Prince to be an amazing talent and one of the most fascinating people of a generation. “Nothing Compares 2 U” A lot of you are probably wondering why this song was chosen. First off, most of you probably don’t know that this song is a cover. If that is the case you probably wouldn’t know that not only is this song a cover but it is in fact the most commercially successful cover of all time. And if you didn’t know those first two points you most definitely didn’t know that this was a song originally written and performed by Prince. Yes! Prince! That guy who had no name for a while and just went by a symbol. And finally the craziest part. This is not only the best selling cover of all time, it is in fact Prince’s best selling song of all time!
