I sometimes have a hard time classifying this as “Nostalgia” but believe it or not, The O.C. is now over a decade old. The show premiered to much rave in 2003 and became a cult hit during it’s 4 year run. What’s funny is that I never watched it during it’s initial run. I was often the one criticizing the show for being “lame”. But after catching a few episodes in reruns, I quickly bought the box set and realized how addictive it really was.
I think the show sometimes doesn’t get the proper respect it deserves. Season 1 was a very well acted, well written and well cast show. It made Adam Brody a star, solidified how good Peter Gallagher was and made boys everywhere fall in love with Rachel Bilson. The show was also known for being on the cutting edge of great music, featuring hit songs/artists before they became hits. Unfortunately the show and writers “jumped the shark”. Plots were rushed, new characters were brought in and then died, they just tried doing too many things too fast. And when ratings started to slip, they tried even harder to bring people back. If they would have stuck with what drew people in during season one, the show may have last a little bit longer.
Many Chrismukkah’s have past and I still recall the buzz surrounding the show’s series finale. Despite an audience who wasn’t willing to tune-in weekly, 6.7 million tuned-in to see how creator Josh Schwartz would wrap up his once iconic series. He didn’t disappoint, using great music and montages to close stories, keep some open and bring the show full circle.
Where are the cast now? Well, Seth (Adam Brody) is still a big star but very selective of his films, Ryan (Ben McKenzie) did a cop drama, Sandy (Peter Gallagher) is still kicking ass, Summer (Rachel Bilson) does the odd film, Luke (Chris Carmack) is now the gay cowboy in Nashville and Marissa (Mischa Barton) has been facing psychiatric and legal problems and looks like this….
