Pinky, Elmyra, & the Brain

Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brain

This is a show I didn’t even realize existed? I know what you’re gonna say….”Hey dumb-ass, you never heard of Pinky & The Brain?” Of course I’ve heard of Pinky & The Brain, that show was brilliant. But this article is about Pinky, Elmrya & The Brain…which was a real show. Pinky & The Brain started as the genetically enhanced Acme lab mice in Steve Spielberg’s Animaniacs, a show that spawned many spin-off’s. The duo became so popular with their comedic back and forth (Pinky: “Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?” The Brain: “The same thing we do every night, Pinky—try to take over the world!”) that they had a half-hour all to themselves in 1995. They lasted 4 seasons and 65 episodes. Sadly the Brain never succeeded in taking over the world…he came close though.

For some strange reason the show was “retooled” in 1998 as Steven Spielberg Presents Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain (originally titled Pinky & the Brain Meets Elmyra, The Continuing Adventures of Pinky & the Brain, and Pinky & the Brain: The Elmyra Years). Elmyra Duff was a spoiled brat of a character from Tiny Toon Adventures who was obsessed with having animals as pets, and would go great lengths to keep them in her house and in her arms. This would be the last time we would see Pinky and the Brain as Elmyra would squeeze the life out of the show and have it cancelled after 13 episodes.
