Throwback Thursdays! “The Man Who Sold the World” by Nirvana

It was a sad day when 21 years ago on April 5th 1994, Kurt Cobain took his own life with a shotgun in his Seattle home. His body was found 3 days later. I still remember hearing the announcement on the radio and the disc jockey getting chocked up as he stated that he “really didn’t want to say this…” before announcing Cobain was dead. It feels like for the next two years after that everyone was wearing that Kurt Cobain: 1967-1994 T-Shirt.

I chose “The Man Who Sold the World” as the video to show for Throwback Thursdays because it is actually the most nostalgic song for me when it comes to Nirvana, which is ironic because it is a David Bowie cover. I watched this video countless times, it introduced me to “unplugged” music and frankly I can’t watch “Smells Like Teen Spirit” without thinking of . Enjoy.

  1. The Man Who Sold the World is one of the first songs I learned to play on bass guitar. I was terrible at it, but people could still recognise the great bassline.
