In what has been a crazy year for celebrity deaths already, yet another music icon has passed away. Like David Bowie, Prince was someone I appreciated and really respected as an artist/musician but I would be lying if I said I was a huge fan. To be honest, I know Prince mostly for his great songs (When Doves Cry, Let’s Go Crazy and 1999 are legit anthems for me). Other than that my knowledge or Prince is mostly based on watching Purple Rain:
The 1989 Batman Soundtrack:
Charlie Murphy’s story about him:
Neal Brennan’s story about him:
Kevin Smith’s story about him:
Oh and the fun fact that “Nothing Compares to You” is actually Prince’s best selling single:
All of this aside, I really did believe Prince to be an amazing talent and one of the most fascinating people of a generation. Anytime he would perform live on show I would always tune and be blown away by his performance (and in most cases I had never even heard the song being performed before).
There will be some amazing articles, videos and posts about Prince over the coming weeks that will be 10 million times more heartfelt and entertaining than this post and I encourage you to read them all. If there is one thing I’ve learned through the years, the more things you think you know about Prince, the less you actually do.
