Throwback Thursdays! “La Bamba” by Los Lobos

Oh buddy, this is a big childhood favorite for this guy (this guy being me. I’m sorry was that not clear?). The original song of course was by Ritchie Valens, however, in the late 80s I only knew of this version as it was getting tons of play on the radio thanks to the release of the movie La Bamba starring Lou Diamond Phillips as Valens.

Fun fact: As a child I told my parents I saw the sequel to La Bamba one day at school. I claimed that Ritchie Valens actually escaped the plane in a parachute. My parents just smiled and let me go on and on. Years later I would find out what “based on a true story” meant and realize what a cool move that was by my parents not calling me on my insane lie. Enjoy the video!
