Here is another weird toy from the 90s….Blurp Balls. These toys first produced in 1991 were considered knock offs of the very popular MadBalls. Blurp Balls had six different characters: Boney Tossteeth, T-Retch, Count Have-A-Heart, Spittooey Sooey, Biff Barfball, Sharkey Skullsquert, Retch-A-Rat Tomcat, and Croakey Bugchuck. Unlike MadBalls which were a tennis sized rubber ball character, Blurp Balls were a character that would spit or blurp out a small ball of it’s own…..the toy sucked and didn’t last long on the market.
In early 2000, MTV superstar Tom Green was diagnosed with testicular cancer during the peak of his career. Because of his illness, The Tom Green Show ceased production. The rumour was that the show was cancelled because of an alleged segment where Tom shows up at a bar mitzvah dressed as Adolf Hitler. This was simply a rumour that started when some Boston teenagers were caught videotaping themselves doing a similar stunt and when asked by security, they used the name “Tom Green.” Once again, it was just a rumour. While going through treatment, Tom decided to document his struggle in a one-hour MTV special called The Tom Green Cancer Special. Tom beat cancer, but his career and popularity never fully recovered. Granted he’s still quite popular and a few years ago had the most successful show on the internet (Tom Green’s House). However, his cancer and hiatus scared away too many fans…That and the fact that by then others began to “rip off” his act.
. I had fun playing, uhhh, whatever this was. It was a good thing to do to kill a few minutes. And then get bored. Quickly. But for those few minutes I tell ya, it was fun. Yup.
