Fraggle Rock! One of my all time favourite shows growing up with one of the catchiest theme songs ever and it took till now to write a post on it! Sadly it was the passing of Gerard Parkes (or Doc as we knew him on Fraggle Rock) this past weekend to make me realize we have never done a post on one of the most Nostalgic shows of my generation. Fraggle Rock (which ran from 1983-1987) was another one of Jim Henson’s great creations. Not quite Sesame Street and not quite The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock was a different than anything else on TV. It didn’t have the educational value of say Sesame Street or the comedic value of The Muppet Show, but it found a home in wholesome family entertainment. I loved everything about this show growing up…then I got older… Sadly, a few years back I re-visited Fraggle Rock and found it does not hold up for me as an adult. That said, when I have kids (and/or finally lose that paternity suit) …
Despite being a child of the 90s, I was grew up on great 80s cartoons thanks to my two old brothers and television reruns. Cartoons of the 80s/early 90s was an era of great storytelling and serious lessons/themes being taught in each episode. Now-a-days…don’t get me started. Let’s see how many of these you forgot about… C.O.P.S. THE RACCOONS HULK HOGAN’S ROCK N’ WRESTLING FRAGGLE ROCK: THE ANIMATED SHOW HEATHCLIFF AND THE CATILLAC CATS
As kid from the 80s/90s, McDonald’s was the happiest place on earth. At McDonald’s you got to eat the best food ever and get an awesome toy for FREE! I was more of a 90s kid myself, but I got lots of hand-me-down toys from my older brothers. A lot of which were from McDonald’s Happy Meals. Here are some of the best that I recall… HALLOWEEN PAILS STOMPERS 4X4 TRUCKS BARENSTAIN BEARS MCDONALD’S RACE CARS DUCKTALES GARFIELD MCNUGGET BUDDIES FRAGGLE ROCK CARS
This was hands down on my top 3 favourite Christmas Specials of all time. A Muppet Family Christmas. This was even better than A Muppet’s Christmas Carol (yeah I said it). Here is the whole special in its entirety (you can watch it all including the 80s tv commercials here. It’s amazing). This movie was the first (I believe) to bring all of Jim Henson’s Muppets together including The Muppets, The Cast of Sesame Street and The Fraggles. It’s an adorable little story of everyone showing up to Fozzy’s mom’s farmhouse for the holidays. A house she had already rented out to Doc (from Fraggle rock,) who wanted a quiet Christmas with his dog Sprocket. The whole gang winds up together and you learn the importance of family and being together and yada yada yada. It’s a great little Christmas Story and I encourage everyone to give it a watch. The scene where the Swedish Chef is trying to cook Big Bird is phenomenal! (it happens around the 27 minute mark). Merry Christmas!
