The comeback of Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Perhaps one of the most famous wrestlers of all time, Jake “The Snake” Roberts is currently in the hospital recovering after a serious bout of pneumonia. This health scare came after Jake had possibly the greatest comeback in wrestling history. No, he hasn’t wrestled in years and might not ever again. Jake’s comeback has been a personal one. After years of being in the spotlight, Jake developed a serious addiction to alcohol and hard drugs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts had a pretty messed up childhood. I’m not going to get into it, but it was….shall we say f**ked up. He was able to overcome those early childhood events and turn that into some serious acting skills. Jake started wrestling in the 70s and hit his popularity in the late 80s/early 90s with the World Wrestling Federation. He was known for being one of the best psychologist and talkers in the industry. Jake would appear and disappear from the spotlight many times throughout the 90s. In the 2000s, Jake wasn’t much around. The last memory anyone …

RIP Ultimate Warrior

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this post about the passing of one of my childhood heroes….The Ultimate Warrior. He passed away Tuesday evening at the age of 54. Signs are pointing to a massive heart attack, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The Ultimate Warrior started his wrestling career in the mid 80s. After tag teaming with Sting (together known as The Blade Runners), he entered the World Wrestling Federation as the Dingo Warrior. His wild persona, face paint, insanely muscular body and smash mouth style made him a hot commodity in the WWF. Pretty soon he was the Intercontinental Champion on his way to challenging Hulk Hogan for the Heavyweight Championship. Their clash at WrestleMania VI was always one of my favorite matches. Despite being a huge Hulkamaniac, it was an epic sight seeing Warrior be the first person to truly dethrone the Hulkster. This was the highest peak of Warriors career. …

My Favourite Wrestler of All Time: Mick Foley

My favourite wrestling star of all time is Mick Foley. His promo work and hardcore abilities were leagues ahead of most others during his years as a professional wrestler. To add to this, he is a very smart and down to earth guy. And his books are fucking hilarious. Mick Foley was embroiled in an excellent long term fued with HHH in early 2000. The two had an epic Street Fight match at the Royal Rumble and then followed that up with a Hell In A Cell encounter at No Way Out. These matches go down in my mind as two of the most exciting and well worked contests I have seen. Even to this day, 13 years later, they hold up as top 20 caliber matches I have ever witnessed. Mick Foley is credited by many wrestling pundits for helping HHH get over with the fans and reaching a superstar level because of their work together for these two months. The following clip illustrates Foley abandoning his Mankind persona in favour of the more …
