The Nostalgia Blog’s Christmas gift to you, Jim Carrey during the Christmas season on Letterman and Leno. Feel free to re-gift. Enjoy!
The 90s was an interesting era in film. We saw the beginning and rebirth of mega franchises, comedy cult classics and probably the largest amount of straight to Home Video releases ever. As the years go on, we remember the hits and money makers from each era, but we often forget about the ones we enjoyed but didn’t love. Not to mention the movies that teachers would show us on Fridays as a way to fill the afternoon. Here are 5 movies for the 90s that I’m pretty sure you forgot existed…. MY GIANT starring Billy Crystal SIMON BIRCH CHASERS starring Tom Berenger B.A.P.S. starring Halle Berry GORDY starring Babe
Here is a collection of photos, just like the one above (James Franco as James Dean) of the real life icons and the modern day actors who played them in movies. Photos courtesy of imgur.com. Robert Downey Jr.as Charlie Chaplin Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe Gary Busey as Buddy Holly Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious
This video will be (if it isn’t already) all the rage very soon. It features 40 clips of rare celebrity auditions for roles in all of your favorite movies. Some of these actors got the roles and some didn’t. It’s pretty crazy to see some amazing actors lose out on roles and then see Megan Fox appear to flub her lines (I could be wrong on that) yet still get the role. Sunrise, Sunset. Anywho, the auditions include: Martin Freeman and Bennedict Cumberbatch – “Sherlock” Robert Downey JR – “Backdraft” Brad Pitt – “Backdraft” Leonardo DiCaprio – “Outsiders” Lindsay Lohan – “The Parent Trap” Robert de Niro – “Godfather” Alyson Hannigan – “American Pie” Michael Cera – “Superbad” Sophie Turner – “Game of Thrones” Selena Gomez – “Wizards of Waverly Place” Megan Fox – “Transformers” Natalie Portman – “Leon: The Professional” Matthew Fox – “Lost” Ellen Page – “Juno” Russell Brand – “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” Jennifer Connelly – “Blue Heaven” Hugh Laurie – “House M.D” Hugh Jackman – “X-Men” Raven Symone – “The Cosby Show” …
There is a very good chance you’ve never heard of the 90s film High Strung, especially considering it was a fairly small indie flick for its time. But it has since gained cult status and worth a watch for sure (youtube link below for full film, otherwise it’s very hard to find). Starring Steve Oedekerk, the premise is that he’s a grumpy guy who complains about his life so much and how he’d “rather be dead” that death (played by Jim Carrey) finally shows up to put him out of his misery. The movie almost entirely takes place in an apartment with very few actors. So simple, yet so hilarious. If you don’t have time for the full feature, then check out this rant on relationships. Thane (Steve Oedekerk) is clearly bitter about his last break up tells us why he feels they should change the name of relationships to “pain land”.
