Spike Jonze probably directed your favourite music video

We all (or should) know that Spike Jonze as the acclaimed director of movies such as Her, Where the Wild Things Are, Being John Malkovich and Adaptation as well as a frequent guest on Jackass. However, unbeknownst to me, my first introduction to Spike Jonze came in Music Video form. He is known for making some of the best music videos of all time. In fact, the first time I saw Spike Jonze on camera I didn’t even know it was him. He was portraying the character of Richard Koufey, an eccentric character who was the leader of fictional dance group The Torrance Community Dance Group in the video for “Praise You” by Fatboy Slim. I really thought that Richard Koufey was a real person and I believe Jonze even accepted an MTV Music award for Fatboy Slim that year as Richard Koufey. My brain hurts.

All that aside, Spike Jonze has a music video catalog that would make other directors look like film students. Here are just a few of the dozens he has done in that last 20 years. Get ready to be impressed.

Sabotage – Beastie Boys

Buddy Holly – Weezer

Cannonball – The Breeders

It’s Oh So Quiet – Bjork

Da Funk – Daft Punk

Elektrobank – Chemical Brothers

It’s All About the Benjamins (Rock Remix) – Lil’ Kim and Puff Daddy

Praise You – Fatboy Slim

Get Back – Ludacris

Flashing Lights – Kanye West

Otis – Jay-Z & Kanye West
